Summary
Engineering Students Without Borders (ESWB) at the University of Virginia (UVa) is "an organization that promotes the application of engineering to community development by providing resources to its membership…. The organization is dedicated to helping engineering students realize their goals and promote their causes by hosting lectures and workshops, encouraging dialogue, advocating for support from the University, providing project presentations, and helping members attain funding and guidance for their project ideas" (EWSB, 2012, 1st para).

Through local and global partnerships, the organization creates opportunities for engineering students and promotes community development (ESWB, 2012).

ESWB at UVa intends to use this conference as a forum for the dissemination of their unique, student run organization. ESWB at UVa was formed with the goal of bringing together students with a common engineering interest in order to facilitate discussions and group learning. The organization has steadily grown over the years, and now encompasses an array of activities and advising opportunities that relate to community engagement, service-learning, community-based participatory research, and engineering for sustainability in a community setting.

The poster will outline the various participant and stakeholder connections that come together under ESWB at UVa and its associated activities. This organization takes a multifaceted approach toward fostering service-learning and community engagement best practices at the University of Virginia. Presenters plan to illustrate this framework in poster form by highlighting the benefits and contributions of all parties especially as it pertains to the advancement of student research and service-learning. These students will also explain these relationships and reflect on their own experiences as active members of the organization and as participants in ESWB-advised service-learning and community engagement research projects.
